About Edmond, Oklahoma
Edmond, the sixth largest city in the state of Oklahoma, was established as a town in 1889 by about 200 residents. The Santa Fe Railroad company used Edmond as a water and coal station. Originally called "Summit", Edmond took on its name after a Santa Fe Railroad employee, Edmond Burdick. The City of Edmond is now home to approximately 76,000 people.
Located in the center of Oklahoma, just north of Oklahoma City, Edmond easily connects to all parts of the Oklahoma City Metro Area. Edmond is about 15 minutes from downtown Oklahoma City & Bricktown, and about 20 minutes from Tinker AFB.
Edmond combines the best "big city" ammenities with that homey "small town" feel. It has a top-rated school district. All three Edmond High Schools made Newsweek's list of America's Best High Schools. According to the Edmond Economic Development Authority, Edmond also has the lowest crime rate of any city in Oklahoma with over 10,000 people. In 2006, Money Magazine rated Edmond, Oklahoma number 52 in its top 100 places to live. In 2007, RelocateAmerica also rated Edmond in its top 100 places to live.
